The Clearview Library District is committed to providing welcoming and safe spaces for teen patrons (ages 12 through 18) to engage in individual and group activities. Our teen spaces are dedicated areas designed and intended exclusively for teen patrons. Teens can socialize, attend programs, and use library resources in a welcoming and teen-friendly environment.
Materials in the teen collection are selected for teen patrons. The collection should meet the needs of this entire age group; however, materials provided for an 18-year-old may not be appropriate for a 12-year-old. Parents and caregivers are responsible for determining the suitability of materials for their teen(s).
All patrons are expected to follow the Clearview Library District’s Conduct in the Library policy, along with the guidelines and procedures specific to the teen space:
- Teen spaces are dedicated to patrons ages 12 through 18 years old. Those who do not appear to be between 12-18 years old and unable to prove their age may be asked to move to another area of the library.
- Parents, caregivers, tutors, or legal guardians may visit teen spaces with their teens to assist with material selection, homework, or other-one-on-one help. Patrons who are not between the ages of 12-18 are welcome to browse and check out materials from the teen collection for use outside of the teen space.
- Computers in the teen space are available for patrons ages 12-18. Computers are available on a first come, first served basis, and teen patrons will be able to use their allotted internet time on these computers.
Video Gaming in Teen Tower
Teens will be able to play a selection of approved video games that are provided by the library. All games available for play will have an E.S.R.B.1 rating of either “E”, “E10+”, or “Teen”. Online interactions, which may be enabled in games, are not rated by the E.S.R.B. Patrons are expected to adhere to the Internet Safety and Acceptable Use Policy when participating in online gameplay.
Patrons must have a library card in order to check out controllers and game accessories, available through the library staff at one of the library’s service points. Controllers and game accessories must be library-issued. Patrons will not be permitted to alter configurations of gaming consoles, including but not limited to: adding or modifying account profiles/logins, as well as installing games, apps, or software. Patrons will be expected to take turns in playing games with one another and show respect to their fellow patrons.
