Open Positions on the Board of Trustees

The Clearview Library District has two openings on the Library Board of Trustees, serving a three-year term beginning January 2020. To apply, please submit a letter of interest and an application at the Windsor-Severance Library or on the bookmobile. Applications and letters are due by 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019.


What are the qualifications for a trustee?

The most important qualification is a strong and genuine belief in public libraries and their mission in the community as centers for connection, transformation, and lifelong learning. The mission of the Clearview Library District is: Cultivate Curiosity. Enlighten the Mind. Strengthen the Community. 

A candidate must be willing to devote appropriate time and effort to carrying out the duties and responsibilities of trustee. These duties will include regular attendance at Board of Trustees meetings, committee service and activities, visibility in the community on behalf of the library, and learning about the library and the social, legal, and political context in which it exists. 

Candidates must be legal residents of the Clearview Library District. 

Colorado Law Overview

Public libraries within the State of Colorado operate in compliance with the laws specified in the Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS)Title 24 (Government - State), Article 90 (Libraries); and other applicable statutes. 

There are two types of library boards: advisory and governing. The Clearview Library District Board of Trustees is a governing board, and has fiscal and legal responsibility for the control and management of the library, authority to make policy, authority to hire and fire the library director, and other powers as defined in CRS 24-90-109

Trustee Selection Process

The Clearview Library District Board is composed of five trustees and one alternate, appointed with the approval of the towns of Windsor and Severance and the Weld RE-4 School District for staggered terms of office. The selection committee for trustees is comprised of one member from the Library Board of Trustees, one board member from the Town of Windsor, one board member from the Town of Severance, one board member from the Weld RE-4 School District, and one member of the Greeley Town Council or a resident of the library district who resides in Greeley and is appointed by the Mayor of Greeley.

Timeline

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019.

Interviews will be held in the first half of October.

Selected candidates’ names will be referred to the Windsor and Severance Town Boards and the Weld RE-4 School Board for ratification.

Terms will begin Jan. 1, 2020.
